Hi everyone,
My name is Tony. I do Security Research and Detection Engineering, and I’m currently employed by Proofpoint, as a member of the Emerging Threats team.
If I had to describe my job in a nutshell it would be converting network artifacts and PCAPs into detection. I mainly specialize in Snort and Suricata rules, but I have a small amount of experience with Zeek, Yara, ClamAV, etc. If it puts data on the wire into a discernible, repeatable pattern, I can find a way to detect it.
When I’m not on the job, I’m usually loafing and doing nerd things. Said nerd things include reading Manga/Manhwa/Light Novels, Watching Anime, and Playing video games (my favorite genres include rogue-likes, and RPGs). I also enjoy cooking, and a bit of gardening when the state of Michigan allows for it.
I’m also somewhat of a prolific blogger, have been a guest at a few cybersecurity-focused podcasts, and am a self-published author.
My long-term goal and dream is to acquire a vacation home in northern Michigan somewhere in the Traverse City region, preferably with a few acres attached to it, as I’m also a big fan of the region, its beaches, lighthouses, scenery, and pretty good food.
