Hi IFIN,
I’m Rye.
A bit about my background, I started my career in technology in the Army specifically in distributed wide band radio systems, and learned a lot about switching from a different era, I learned BIT and BYTE fault isolation on cards, soldering and other wild things you can do with silicone and chipsets.
The equipment changed, from components and parts that you could replace to commercial off the shelf solutions.
After two different tours, I served in Germany, and eventually the White House Communication Agency as a communications agent.
In the later part of my career I pivoted from front line work to strategic work with JFHQDODIN and Army Cyber Command in defensive operations.
After service I did some contract work doing vulnerability analysis for the Distributed Common Ground Systems, contract work was untenable and I later switched to being a civil servant for Current and Future ops with Army Cyber.
After my government work I worked at an Energy Company ™ as a security engineer in critical infrastructure and vulnerability analysis for enterprise systems. When I started that work, I did not understand at the time how employees are not well positioned for benefits, the role did not have PTO and when I asked for time off after 14 months of work I was offered an unpaid vacation.
After that ‘vacation’ I started working for myself, building web applications. I value the time and liberty it gives me to make decisions for how much I want to spend my day ‘working’, and how much I want to spend my day doing things I want to do with my family and friends.
Currently I spend my time helping my partner host sewing events, working on sewing machines and gardening and researching how to rehabilitate old hardware and contribute to IFIN in the ways that I can.
My hobbies include watercolor and mixed-media arts.
