Computer Weekly reveals for the first time how French cyber spies hacked EncroChat phones, used by organised crime groups, in 2020. In the first of two major articles, we describe how a Czech spyware company rehacked the French hack and found that French malware – described as a national security secret – had been copied from popular code-sharing platform GitHub.

Keeping track of the evolution of communication network utilized by (mostly) criminals has been one of the topics I’ve been fascinated by for years, one that I’ve loosely followed pretty much since Ennetcom was broken up by law enforcement more than a decade ago.
I haven’t fully read the paper yet, but the article is intriguing and all in all that looks like some impressive research!
