Hi, I'm John

I’ve been Doing Computers professionally for a bit over twenty years. Most of that time was spent administering Windows and Linux servers and virtualization environments, at progressively larger scale/scope and requiring more automation and understanding of the connected systems. I’m now a platform architect helping ensure our developers have a safe place to build and test their code without them having to learn how to computer (or be trusted with such a responsibility). It’s a lot of fun since I get to tie my infrastructure + automation skills together to solve ever-more-interesting problems, and get to do a good bit of mentorship (of both developers and operators) along the way.

None of my jobs have ever had “security” in the title, but staying apprised of the actual threats (and how to defend against them) has been a crucial part of my role whether when dealing with individual applications/systems or a whole enterprise full of them.

I love learning new stuff and sharing the things I’ve learned, and I always enjoy engaging with people smarter than me.

Great to meet you!

Welcome! We love a security-minded administrator.

Personally, I ended up in security through being a one-person IT department in K-12 ed.

Anyway, glad to have you with us!
