I’m not really sure how prevalent (or successful) this is, but of course the weaponization of curl | bash has been around for some time. This is just a singularly wide attack surface.
I observed a similar campaign but for brew users and haphazardly documented here. Main difference is not cloning and hosting the install documentation, rather using established note sharing services
