I wanted to share some ideas about what we could introduce for a social component, similar to ‘Monsterdon’ I mention Monsterdon since it is something that seemingly draws some online interaction from a diverse group of people who share a common interest.

There are many considerations to picking the right category and subject to create a hashtag to interact with.
What are some categories and subjects that might fit this potential model of interaction with the community at large.
I would suggest an additional parameter to consider: ability to be predictable with respect to time
BlueSky has a similar community viewing thing like Fright Club, X-files, and Star Trek, although it’s generally determined by TV programming schedules, not crowd votes like Monsterdon
DEF CON staff does hacker-y monthly movie nights. If we were to do something in a similar vein we’d want to be distinct enough perhaps. Perhaps detective series would be up the community’s alley? Stuff like Columbo and so on. I’m quite partial to guided things like ‘Masterpiece Mystery!’, so my biases may be showing
I agree about the predictable time window, which makes Monsterdon so successful for me, it’s a standing reservation of time, and in some cases the family joins in too, in watching, nobody else likes to use mastodon.
Didn’t know that DEF CON had a movie night, but agree that the thing chosen, should be unique in its own component.
A detective series could be fun to integrate, since it also gives a bit of breadth and depth to the topics and subjects.
