Notepad++ "fork" for mac may be based on suspicious ground?

As you might have recognized there’s currently a mac dedicated fork of the popular Notepad++ attracting lots of interest.

It seems like there is an attempt of making the website looking like being affiliated to the original project, which led to a clarifying statement by its founder: Trademark Violation: Fake Notepad++ for Mac | Notepad++

When trying to take a look at the author of the fork and the roots of the project, there seem to be less to no background.

I wonder if this could be the beginning of a supply chain attack since the surroundings seem to be suspicious for a common fork off scenario.

On first blush, Hanlon’s Razor seems to apply here. I suspect a supply chain attack would not involve these kinds of notices.

In coordination with Don Ho, the creator of the original Notepad++, I’ll be evolving the branding of the macOS version so it stands on its own while respecting its lineage. These updates, such as a new logo, a refined name, and likely a new domain will ship with version 1.0.6 in the coming days. Continuity for existing users is a priority, and I’ll make the transition as seamless as I can. Thank you for your patience.

The source is probably worth reviewing—not least of which because the repo shows Claude as a contributor.

Good point. Seem primarily to be a Claude-based port, yet.
