I do a lot of internet searches for old tech. I’m a collector/restorer and it’s not unusual for me to go from rabbit hole to rabbit hole looking for the ‘best’ of something.
That said I keep stumbling upon findthisbest[.]com due to what seems like obsessively good SEO/abuse of the google algorithm.
On the surface it looks like yet another comparison/ranking site. But on closer inspection the content, author photos, blog posts, everything is done by AI.
Searching Netbooks reads ok. But I had an accidental hit on ‘Best Electronic Organisers 90’s’ (I’m old school I don’t search like a human).
This was pure luck on my part. I didn’t realise people called laptop/electronics bags ‘Electronic Organisers’ these days. I was referring to the old Sharp and Casio LCD organisers.
This did expose the nonsense, though. While the page starts off ok-ish, it devolves into a mix of luggage and PDAs. You’ll also note, almost every page was ‘updated’ within the last 30 days.
I’m finding more and more unrelated searches, with a fresh, hardened browser and no cookies. Same results from different locations, and the search result caters to my location.
Looks like ad-revenue/referrer farming to me. But this one is particularly elaborate.
Not had chance to do a deep dive, just thought I’d flag as of interest.
